Shredding the Web

From our earliest beginnings, humans have affected the web of life. Since everything is connected, we could say the same thing about any organism. The difference is that we now have a large population and powerful technologies that have far-reaching effects. Scientists estimate that we currently take about one third of the photosynthesis energy captured and stored by Earth's land plants.

Without meaning to, we are experimenting with the planetary web of life in at least six different ways.
